Aerogen USB Controller + Aerogen Solo Nebulizer System
The Aerogen USB Controller + Aerogen Solo Nebulizer System is an advanced aerosol drug delivery solution designed to support respiratory therapy across different stages of patient care.
The system combines the Aerogen Solo vibrating mesh nebulizer with the reusable Aerogen USB Controller, providing a flexible solution for aerosol medication delivery during invasive mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, high-flow therapy and spontaneous ventilation.
For hospitals, healthcare facilities, respiratory care professionals and patients requiring an Aerogen nebulizer in the UAE, this system combines Aerogen’s vibrating mesh nebulization technology with a reusable USB-powered controller in one practical configuration.
Aerogen Solo Vibrating Mesh Nebulizer
The Aerogen Solo is the nebulizer component of the system. It uses Aerogen vibrating mesh technology to generate aerosol for delivery of physician-prescribed inhalation medications approved for use with a general-purpose nebulizer.
Unlike conventional pneumatic or jet nebulizers, the Aerogen Solo does not require additional gas flow to generate aerosol. Aerogen describes the Solo as operating with no added flow, making it suitable for integration into respiratory circuits without introducing additional flow from the nebulizer itself.
The Solo incorporates a 6 mL medication cup and allows medication to be refilled without opening the respiratory circuit. This supports convenient in-line aerosol delivery during supported ventilation.
Aerogen Solo is also virtually silent. Aerogen specifies an operating noise level of less than 35 dB measured at 1 metre, helping provide quiet aerosol treatment in clinical environments.
Aerosol Performance
The Aerogen Solo has a minimum nebulization rate greater than 0.2 mL/min, with an average nebulization rate of approximately 0.38 mL/min.
Aerogen states that a typical 3 mL dose takes approximately 7 minutes to aerosolize, although actual treatment time may vary depending on the medication and clinical setup.
Residual medication remaining in the nebulizer after treatment is minimal at less than 0.1 mL.
Aerogen USB Controller
The Aerogen USB Controller is the reusable power and control component of the system. It is not the nebulizer itself; instead, it provides the power required to operate compatible Aerogen technology, including the Aerogen Solo.
The controller can be operated from compatible USB connections and USB ports on ventilators and other medical equipment. An Aerogen AC/DC adapter can also be used where appropriate for mains-powered operation.
The USB Controller provides two selectable operating modes:
30-minute mode is intended for intermittent aerosol medication delivery.
6-hour mode provides extended operation according to medication delivery requirements.
The USB Controller is reusable and can be used multiple times with different patients when handled according to Aerogen’s Instructions for Use and applicable infection-control procedures.
Respiratory Therapy Applications
The Aerogen Solo and USB Controller system supports aerosol drug delivery throughout different stages of respiratory care:
IMV – Invasive Mechanical Ventilation
Aerosol medication can be delivered through compatible invasive ventilator circuits.
NIV – Non-Invasive Ventilation
The system can be integrated into suitable non-invasive respiratory circuits.
HF – High-Flow Therapy
Aerogen Solo supports integrated aerosol delivery during compatible high-flow therapy.
SV – Spontaneous Ventilation
Aerogen technology can also support aerosol therapy for spontaneously breathing patients when used with the appropriate Aerogen configuration and accessories.
Depending on the respiratory circuit and clinical setup, Aerogen states that the Solo can be positioned at the wye or at the humidifier. Exact positioning, adapters and accessories should always follow the applicable Aerogen Instructions for Use and the respiratory equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Single-Patient-Use Aerogen Solo
The Aerogen Solo is a single-patient-use nebulizer.
Aerogen validates the Solo for a typical intermittent-use profile of four treatments per day using the 30-minute mode for up to 28 days.
When the Aerogen Solo is used in continuous mode with the appropriate continuous nebulization configuration, its validated life is up to 7 days.
This distinction is important:
Aerogen Solo = single-patient-use nebulizer
Aerogen USB Controller = reusable power and control unit
How the Aerogen Nebulizer System Works
Aerogen Solo – Nebulizer Component
The Aerogen Solo contains the vibrating mesh technology responsible for aerosol generation. The vibrating mesh converts liquid medication into aerosol suitable for inhalation without requiring additional compressed gas flow.
Aerogen USB Controller – Power and Control Component
The Aerogen USB Controller powers compatible Aerogen technology and provides the selectable 30-minute and 6-hour operating modes.
Together, the Aerogen USB Controller + Aerogen Solo Nebulizer System provides a compact and flexible vibrating mesh aerosol drug delivery solution for use across multiple respiratory modalities.
